001About

Food safety you can see, from the farm to the market.

Poultry is one of Nigeria's most important sources of affordable protein, and much of it moves through informal markets. FS4Africa is a European Union–funded initiative addressing food safety challenges in Africa's informal food sector through innovation. Within it, the Farmsured–Foodsured project shows how digital tools can make safe production practices visible, verifiable and rewarded — so that farmers, traders and consumers can all trust what they produce, sell and eat.

002The challenge

Safety in informal markets is hard to verify.

Unseen practices

Good farm practices are rarely documented, so there's no easy way to show that food was produced safely.

Broken links

The journey from farm to market is fragmented, and products lose their connection to where and how they were produced.

Low consumer confidence

Buyers have no simple way to check the origin and safety of the eggs and chicken they purchase.

003Our role

AgDyna leads the project and provides the technology.

Selected through FS4Africa's Open Call 1, AgDyna leads the Farmsured–Foodsured project — bringing its digital infrastructure, field networks and value chain experience to make poultry food safety measurable and trusted.

  • Project lead

Plans, coordinates and delivers the project alongside value chain partners.

  • Technology provider

Deploys Farmsured, Foodsured and FarmClusters as one connected system.

  • Farmer engagement

Organises and supports poultry farmers through the FarmClusters cooperative model.

  • Market & consumer outreach

Works with traders and consumers to bring product verification into everyday buying.

  • Evidence & learning

Gathers data and insights on how digital compliance and traceability improve food safety.

004How it works

Compliance becomes data. Data becomes trust.

  1. 01

    Organise

FarmClusters brings farmers together for support and shared accountability.

  2. 02

    Comply

Farmsured helps farmers follow and record good production and biosecurity practices, and confirms inputs are genuine.

  3. 03

    Trace

Foodsured links eggs and chicken to the farm they came from with secure QR labels.

  4. 04

    Verify

Traders and consumers scan to check origin and safety before they buy.

005Who benefits

Farmers

Recognition for safe practices and a clearer path to better markets.

Traders & retailers

Products they can stand behind and prove.

Consumers

Confidence in the safety and origin of the food they buy.

Regulators & partners

Better visibility into food safety across informal value chains.

The project works closely with farmer associations, cooperatives, input suppliers, veterinary and laboratory professionals, and food safety stakeholders — with a deliberate focus on including women and youth.

006Looking ahead

A model built to grow.

What starts with poultry in Oyo State is designed to extend to more communities across Nigeria, other value chains and other African countries — making trusted food the norm, not the exception.
